Soundflower For Mac 10.11

Soundflower is a OS X system extension that allows applications to pass audio to other applications. Soundflower is easy to use, it simply presents itself as an audio device, allowing any audio application to send and receive audio with no other support needed. Soundflower is free, open-source, and runs on Mac Intel and PPC computers. I was going crazy and thinking that I was the dumbest man in the universe, because I could not find a solution to hear the real-time audio from the soundflower on Sierra OSX,(I could record correctly, but I could not hear in real time what was being recorded, I tried everything on midi/audio setup), so this app saved me, or rather, YOU saved me.

Soundflower is a 3rd party plugin which creates a 'Virtual' audio output port on your Mac and allows the programs to pass audio to other software. To be honest. Many of the uses of Soundflower are for recording of music from other streaming sources so as a result it is not very popular with Apple and other commercial music streaming software. While Boom is a simple audio booster I'm not clear why it needs Soundflower but I may be related to the way Book can override system volume () If the Reset of SMC and PRAM as suggested by serialband make no difference. BEFORE you do a complete system reset I'd suggest you.

UNINSTALL Soundflower () reboot the Mac to confirm it is gone (instructions on the link above). See if that stops Boom from working if Boom stops working go onto step 2 2. Reinstall a clean version of Soundflower (as I'm not clear that Soundflower is part of the Boom software package). See if that works. Delete Boom, restart your mac to confirm it is completely gone and REINSTALL If all those 3 options fail. Then it might be time to try a full system re-install. Frustration sets in.

Hi again Eoin and serialband: No success with any ( one pending) of your suggestions. SRC and PRAM reset. Uninstall Soundflower via Library/Extensions.drag to garbage.Soundflower doesn't live there! Download Soundflower package from github, then install/restart.

Run uninstall script/restart. No difference. This Soundflower thing is one slippery item! So I have tried everything but re-installing OS. Will do this witthin next 48 hours and get back to you again!

Will Uninstalling Soundflower and similar system preferences are often a bit more complex than simply dropping a file in the trash and restarting. Especially as system files need admin level permissions to uninstall.

Dragging to trash doesn't always work especially if your user does not have Admin level permissions. You're better using Terminal commands to delete files (see below) Also uninstallers on OSX are not always reliable especially if you did not originally use that self-same installer to originally put Soundflower on your system.

If you are having difficulty removing Soundflower, open up the Terminal application and type: ls /System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.kext Select all if you see-- ls: /System/Library/Extensions /Soundflow er.kext: No such file or directory then soundflower is not on the system! You may need to restart just to make sure all applications do not still think it is loaded.

And then check the Sound Preferences: Output but if you see-- Contents then soundflower is still installed. Please type the following in Terminal sudo kextunload /System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.kext Select all [ you will have to enter your admin password ] sometimes the unloading may fail and you need to do the command again one or two times [ type uparrow, return ] once the unload is successful, then you can blow away soundflower by typing: sudo rm -r /System/Library/Extensions/Soundflower.kext Select all Once again, you will need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect. Hi Eoin (If you find many typois in this message it's because me wireless desktop mouse is recharging, so I am forced to resort to my tablet, which I hate very much.

I have an issue with little tiny keyboards that my big man hands just don't fit on! How do other people work these kitty butty keyboards so smoothly? I just can't make it so!) Having said that: Overnight I reinstalled El Capital via Recovery utility. That went very smoothly and quickly and I felt sure the Sound Prefs issus would be gone. In 'Sound/Output' prefs there sits Sound flower.

And worse, now two installations of Boom showing up! Thanks for the terminal scripts for killing vSoundflower. Will give them a try when I have my mouse back. Interestingly - as you say - an uninstall may not be perfect unless using the original installer. Well yesterday I did download/ install/ uninstall Sounbdfloiwer from github.com. And nothing happened! Sound flower's own package won't uninstall itself!!!

Sound flower acts like malware, if you ask me. As for the second instance of Boom 3D in Sound/Output, What The Heck? I wonder, if I reinstalled the OS again would Boom show up a third time?

As per your suggestion of contacting Pthe Makers of Boom about this issue, that's in the works. I appreciate your well-informed guidance so bfar, and I have a hunch we're getting close to a evolution. Hi Eoin, serialband, No, I haven't skipped town! So sorry for taking so long in replying to your many suggestions. 'Sound' isn't an integral component of computing that I need to do my work as a magazine layout manager.

I work with text and graphics, all day, every day. Sound is a mere 'preference' that I like to have working right.

Hence, other stuff takes priority over my sound prefs. My job is such a killer.I never have spare time for anything. That's why I subscribe to EE, to get friendly, fast help when I have a computing problem. EE is vital to me.

Anyway.Houston, we have lift-off! Ya, yesterday after un-installing/re-installin g Boom ( for the second time!!kind'a strange) my Sound Preferences came back to life as they are supposed to be. Here is how my sound prefs look now: As you can see, Soundflower lives on in my system.

It is one dirty bugger, why can't I find it? Well, Sound Prefs is OK now, so maybe I don't need to worry about Soundflower. Maybe, as you surmised Eoin, maybe Soundflower and Boom work together. From my view now, that seems like a logical guess! You both provided important solution ideas for my issue, so I will go back now to assign points.
